It might be for some of you, but for others, it's a different story...
What a beautiful way to start the day off.
One fact you must know about me is that when I was younger, I have had a fair share of self-love difficulties and struggles due to my skin condition. I used to hate myself and I never saw my specialty in things. I was always down, depressed and I just didn't enjoy life as much as other perfect people did. Boys in class would body shame me, hiss and call me names, and other people manipulated my friends to not like me for me. So, I concluded that if others couldn't love me, then I couldn't either. And this, my friend, is what I grew up believing.
However, even when this occurred, I had family and their love and support for me, which is something I am forever grateful for. After many years, I gradually began to find myself. I shifted from being someone who always cared about people's judgments on me, to becoming someone who actually didn't let that cloud my judgments on myself. I learnt how to embrace my flaws and love myself for who I am, especially understanding and respecting myself, knowing that the patterns on my skin is what makes me me. It's a part of me. I also began to realise that actually, even when most people receive love from family and friends, they still feel incomplete.
Why? It seems as if they have everything, right? Well, not exactly. You see, even when they have gained appreciation, love and respect from other people, they haven't been able to give that to themselves, and this is exactly why they feel empty, worthless and even depressed.
This also ties into social media and how people are able to craft other people's perceptions of them, instead of seeing their own worth to love themselves and to realise that this shouldn't be what they live for. I don't want you to resort to social media to receive this love and appreciation. Today, I want you to find that element within you, and realise that instead, you should be resorting to that to give and receive this love and appreciation to and for yourself. Don't wait for others to give this to you. You should only rely on yourself to feel worthy. After all, self-love is the most important element in life.
Lots of love (no pun intended),
Sam x
